1. Review of Norms - Discussion - no updates or comments on Norms. Action Item - Poster for all - so host site and hang in meeting area.
2. Destiny Update/Technology Update Discussion - Wade discussed the technology update for this district - Implementing Our Vision handout.Green items are going well, orange is still getting worked out, red is still an item we need to work on. Technology has distributed over 900 computer this summer. If people ask why.... this has been a huge task for the summer, technology has been working diligently to rectify issues and we are still dealing with these issues. Performance Matters is a huge initiative this year. Logins will be worked out at the beginning of this year. We have doubled our bandwidth for the internet so we have 200 mb going out - which should be a performance boost. We have an on-line store at the HS and WMS for on-line payments. We will be looking at the web and our web presence this year and determining what our needs are and the direction for that presence. We hope to have a more consistent web presence. Infrastructure - many changes AD - changes with log-ins and how people get access. Wireless is coming - and is hung in the buildings - physically it is there - we upgraded the internet and now we need to update the switches - the wireless will not be up until we get the switches installed and configured. Closets need to be re-organized and so this will take down the networks in your buildings - the hope is to be done with this by the end of September. 1-2 access points per classroom - throughout the building. There will be holes in the service/access. Expect feedback on that in October/November. New phone systems will be installed this year. Phones will be plugged into the network jack - from the wall you will plug into the phone and then from the phone you will plug into the computer. It comes with a client - that you can use - on your personal cell phone??? Caller ID, Caller display - it is a higher end phone system, speaker phone, integration to intercom, direct paging will be integrating. 1400 phones district wide. This is start in December. We will have a tandem system for a month or so - you may also do chat, video, instant messaging, brings all these pieces to people many features. Discovery Streaming - CCC is gone. Codes and log-ins are ready to roll, you need to have your district issued log in. There is a local server for content - that will help with bandwidth. We will have the local server ready by the 10th of Sept. This will give better performance within the district. Also has by building a repository for storage - iTunes - loading digital content, smart files. We can start loading multi-media files. Could be both student and teacher files stored on this space. Substitutes and computers??? the tech office has a few laptops that can be checked out to substitutes. Hopefully there will be enough of these for the substitutes.
Destiny - it remains the same. By Friday all the imports will be done. Automation - has not happened. Asset management - has been added. Technology has not thought out how media specialists will be using this in the future.
K-1 - 2 Log in - Patron log in - bldgstudent (kimstudent) password is student 10 is there a way to have a log in for AR and book look-up.
Action Items: Please relay to your staff that we are working to correct any problems and we are continuing to try and figure out those problems. We are behind with the older machines and getting them re-imaged or updated. Call the helpdesk to get your staff access. Your input is needed for the web presence so we can create a better overall experience. Ask questions about the new network so the tech office can make adjustments to meet your needs. You may share this in general to your staffs - remind them that it is coming mid-October. Please plan on doing some clean-up.
3.Technology Tools Discussion: From our previous meeting we defined what we wanted to use our meeting time for, come up with a technology tool kit. That we can all know and promote as being an expert to our staffs. Jim suggested the list - of what all teachers should know - - we could rate our own skills. Jennifer will color code them and we can see where our proficiency levels are on the scale.
Google issues - call 5100 or email - helpdesk@wayzata.k12.mn.us to take care of those problems Action Item: Jennifer will set up a google survey and share with all of us.
Call 5100 - or e-mail helpdesk@wayzata.k12.mn.us and it is automatically entered. Please share this with your staff.
Discussion:Article to use as a springboard for data and discussions. How do the media people fit in to the data process at a building level and/or district level. Book Checkout data and reading level could be used in helping students with their reading choices. Jim is trying to meet with classes before a research project and showing kids how they can go into advanced search to target items in their reading level. With performance matters we can possibly guide our instruction to our classes. Birchview pulled data and areas of struggling students - literature and literature comprehension - so that is an open door for Jennifer. By keying into where the areas of focus are in each building we can use the data to self-promote as a collaborator. Compartmentalizing what we do - inside our walls is not enough - and become a key player in teachers plans. Performance Matters is linked to standards - and how will be media standards be measured? Research states that schools with licensed media specialists do better - what data are they assessing that bears this outcome?
Collaborative efforts are more valued - do we know what this is? Is it trying to establish common standards - do we want to measure the impact of media on learning? Assessing every student seems counter-productive.
Do we need to set up some goals - to help in this process.
